At the Rocky Mountain Fisher House...

we provide home away from home

What We Do

Our mission is simple: The Rocky Mountain Fisher House provides a "home away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

The Rocky Mountain Fisher House was built in 1992 and opened in 1993 at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center Campus. The Friends of the Fisher House, Denver VA Medical Center was formed in 1995 to support the programs of the Rocky Mountain Fisher House. When the base closed in 1999 the management of the Fisher House passed to the Denver VA Medical Center and the Friends of the Rocky Mountain Fisher House continued their mission of support. In 2011 the Friends organization was renamed the Rocky Mountain Fisher House Foundation to reflect the increasing needs of the Rocky Mountain Fisher House and the approval to build a second house.

“We are so thankful that Fisher House was available for our use when my husband had surgery at VAMC in Denver. Sharon was so helpful, giving us directions to places, telling us how to find our way around the medical center, always smiling and having something positive to say. She made us feel like Fisher House was our own home. Thank you for extending our stay when we found out my husband would be in the hospital longer than we expected, and then when he was actually released earlier I am sure it messed up your scheduling but you just keeps on smiling and working with other families trying to make room for them to stay. The wonderful people we met while there were such a delight. And the meals that volunteers come in and fix in the evenings are wonderful. Such a huge help after spending the day at the hospital. God Bless You All.”

Who We Are

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.

These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $282 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

We provide a "home away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Families do not pay to stay at a Fisher House. Pets are not allowed at the Rocky Mountain Fisher House.
